Wedding guest dressing is its own skill. The brief is specific: look considered, honour the occasion, support the couple without competing with the wedding party.
The most common mistake is dressing too cautiously and ending up looking like the occasion did not matter.
The length question
Midi is the most reliable choice. It reads formal without the commitment of a gown, and it photographs well in any setting. A mini works for relaxed outdoor ceremonies. A maxi works for black-tie. For everything else, midi.
Colour
Dusty rose, jewel tones, warm neutrals, deep navy, sage green. These work. Avoid full white, ivory, or anything that reads as bridal from across the room.
Avoid prints that photograph busy. A clean solid colour or a subtle texture reads better in every photograph you will be in that day.

Fabric and occasion
For outdoor summer weddings: lightweight fabrics, a fluid viscose midi, a satin-feel dress that moves in the heat. For indoor or evening ceremonies: something with more structure, a fitted crepe midi, a satin column, a jacquard bodice dress.
The shoe
Kitten heels, block-heeled mules, or a strappy sandal all work for most weddings. If the ceremony is outdoors on grass, avoid stilettos. The shoe should balance the dress rather than compete with it.
